Dubai, UAE: The Prince Sultan Cultural Centre Company (PSCCC) showcased its Jeddah Healthcare Park project and expansion plans at this year’s Arab Health Exhibition & Congress. The project, which was initiated in November 2012, is a world-class healthcare hub located in the city of Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
Jeddah, a city of 2.8 million people, is forecasted to grow at a faster rate than the rest of the KSA, a country that is already one of the most highly populated in the region. With a steady increase in life expectancy, and the concurrent rise in the rates of chronic illnesses such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, there is a clear need for a healthcare hub that offers international standards of care. Moreover, the high infant and child mortality rates in the country, as well as the substantial number of deaths caused by road traffic accidents, indicate that improvements in pediatric and trauma care are integral to achieving these standards.
The PSCCC executive committee envisioned a healthcare hub that will offer high-quality private healthcare services to the city of Jeddah, raising the bar of healthcare across the KSA to international standards. To develop a sustainable world-class healthcare hub, synergistic planning, patient-centered care, and sustainability were the three main concepts that were taken into account during planning.
At Arab Health, PSCC also announced a series of potential partnerships with Linde, VAMED, Senior Assist, Alfaisal University, and MedCina for Ventilator Extended Care; Rehabilitation Hospital; Non-Ventilator Extended Care; Medical Education; and the Tertiary Care Hospital. Jeddah Healthcare Park, the largest of its kind in area, will provide patients with a central facility for all the health services they require throughout their life cycle.
The PSCCC Jeddah Healthcare Park is a private facility encompassing distinct units catering to different medical needs, including a diabetes, lipids and hypertension center, a dental hospital, a dialysis center, a maternity and pediatric hospital, a rehabilitation hospital, a long-term care hospital, and others. A tertiary care hospital will also be part of the Jeddah Healthcare Park, and will include centers specializing in oncology, neuroscience, heart and vascular care as well as a diagnostics and imaging centre.
“At the moment, care in the KSA is fragmented, with distinct bodies and institutions offering different levels of medical care,” said Mr. Mohamed AlFadl, Chairman of PSCCC. “By incorporating primary, secondary, tertiary, and long-term and rehabilitation care, and by offering patient education, the PSCCC Jeddah Healthcare Park aims to offer a continuum of care for patients according to international standards.” He also added “Such a project will participate in creating more job opportunities to the community and migrate international specialised know how and knowledge to the local market.
Houston Methodist Global Health Care Services, the global arm of Houston Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, USA, will operate the tertiary care hospital, the bone and joint hospital, and the diabetes, lipids and hypertension center. In addition, Houston Methodist Global Health Care Services will be responsible for governing the quality and standard compliance across the Jeddah Healthcare Park.
Cathy Easter, President and CEO, Houston Methodist Global Health Care Services, said: “We aim to deliver high quality facilities, services and standards in the Park to ensure patients receive the level of care required and in accordance with the best international standards.”
The PSCCC Jeddah Healthcare Park will open with at least 650 beds, and will have the capacity to expand to 900 beds and is expected to be completed by early 2018.
